All Groves in ADF must perform some type of community service each Quarter of the year. We donate to a variety of charities in Durham Region, as well as taking part in events around the community.
Yule Auction
Each year, the main fundraising initiative for Dancing Lights Grove is the Yule Auction. We auction handcrafted items like jewelry, artwork, and ritual items, items donated from local businesses, and donate partial proceeds to a local charity.
In 2009, we donated $150 to Epilepsy Durham Region. In previous years, we have donated to Simcoe Hall Settlement House, and the AIDS Committee of Durham Region.
Earth Day Tree Planting
On the weekend closest to Earth Day, April 22, we join a larger organisation in planting trees. In 2009, we attended the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority‘s Earth Day Tree Planting. For the three years prior, we attended 10000 Trees for the Rouge Valley.
Dagda’s Cauldron Food Drive
At our Autumnal Equinox rituals that honour An Dagda, keeper of the un-dry cauldron of plenty, we collect non-perishable food donations for Simcoe Hall Settlement House, to share the bounty of the harvest with others.
In 2009, we collected over 40 lbs. of food, and in 2008, over 60 lbs.
Pitch-In Canada 2007
In August 2007, we participated in Pitch-In Canada 2007 by cleaning up Goodman Creek, a tributary of Oshawa Creek in the west end of the city. We received a certificate from the City of Oshawa.
