Lughnasadh Ritual – Saturday August 6th 2011

Greetings to One and All! Dancing Lights Grove, ADF will be holding our Lughnasadh Ritual and Games on Saturday, August 6, 2011, and everyone is invited!

Lughnasadh is the beginning of the harvest season, and the time of the funeral games of the Celtic goddess Tailtiu. Tailtiu died clearing a forest for her… people, her heart breaking from the strain of the labour. She asked that funeral games be instituted in her honour, and her foster-son Lugh led the first games, while lamenting his foster-mother.

We will also honour Tailtiu by taking part in the funeral games for her. There will be various games, each with different challenges and skills – everything from strength and agility to carrying sheep. Guests wishing to attend the ritual but not participate in the Games are encouraged to come out and cheer on the competitors!

After the Games, we will hold a ritual honouring Lugh, the king of the Tuatha De Danann. Lugh is a multi-talented god, the Master of All Skills, a god of crafts and warriors, the harvest and marketplace.

Dancing Lights would also like to welcome members of Lothloriën Canada (http://www.facebook.com/groups/143782719026584), who will be joining us for this celebration!

Please do NOT bring alcohol for offerings or to share; it is prohibited by the site. Please do bring water for yourself.

YOU MAY CAMP OVERNIGHT. Please bring your own camping equipment, food, musical instruments, and any other supplies you may need.

You are MORE THAN WELCOME to stay for Lisa and Nathan’s post-wedding party, the following day on August 7th. This is a potluck, and is open to all well-wishers.

Summer Solstice Ritual- Saturday June 25, 2011

This ritual will be honouring our Gatekeeper, Manannán mac Lir. Manannán is the ruler of the otherworldly island Emain Ablach, and is often thought of as a magician and trickster. In Dancing Lights rituals, Manannán is our Gatekeeper: He assists us in opening the Gates to the otherworld, and guards the ways between while we worship the Gods. On the Isle of Man, the Summer Solstice was traditionally the time that people would pay… rent to Manannán, bringing gifts of rushes and flowers to a high place. We have chosen to relate to this tradition by honouring Manannán on this day for His continued relationship with us as Gatekeeper. Guests are strongly encouraged to bring offerings for Manannán.

In the spirit of the festival season, and as we at Dancing Lights Grove wish to support our brothers and sisters in ADF as they do us, we will be making a monetary donation to Ár nDraíocht Féin towards the Nemeton Fund. Our Earth Mother and Gatekeeper wooden statues in our nemeton at the Brushwood Folklore Centre are in bad need of replacement. Contributions towards this donation are most welcome.

Please do NOT bring alcohol for offerings or to share; it is prohibited by the site. Please DO bring WATER for yourself.
